In the discussion about funding, we’d be remiss if we didn’t mention Google Grants for Nonprofits. Google Grants for Nonprofits is a program where IRS approved 501(c)(3) organizations receive (are you sitting down?) $10,000 per month in free Google Ads for 12 months. That’s right, $120,000 in free ads – so even if you LOST money on your nonprofit’s advertising campaign by only raising $1.00 for every $2.00 you “spent” – you’d raise $60,000.
The Google for Nonprofits AdWords Grant, a subsection of the Google for Nonprofits program. With this Grant, Google gives Grantees $10,000 a month to spend running advertisements on the Google Search Engine Platform, giving your organization the ability to spread their message and market their mission to a national, or even international audience.Hundreds of thousands of new visitors can be sent to your Nonprofit’s website, and millions of people could view your ads over the course of a year.
On the actual search engine results page (SERP). The top 3 positions of a results page, and entire column on the right hand side are reserved by Google for paid advertisements. Whereas most advertisers must pay out of pocket each time their ad is clicked on by a searcher, the AdWords Grant allows Nonprofits to run these ads for free.
The Google Grants program is extremely underutilized in the nonprofit sector. The average nonprofit uses only $300 a month in the granted AdWords spend: $3,600 a year. In essence, nonprofits are leaving $116,400 in un-utilized marketing dollars on the table. The biggest challenge any nonprofits just don’t have the time or experienced personnel to properly manage an AdWords campaign properly.
